Magic is an unusual art form, in that a successful performance requires mastery of many different skills.
Of course, it goes without saying that to learn magic tricks, you have to practise the technical aspects of the trick (e.g. the sleight of hand that may be required) until they are second nature to you, but this is only one element.
You also need to understand and be proficient at audience management, scripting, timing, stage presence, voice control, acting, and more.
Then, as if all that isn’t enough, you need to establish what persona you wish to adopt when performing, and how you want your magic to be perceived, as these too will define what type of magic tricks you will be able to perform that are consistent with your character.
So, there’s a lot more to magic than just knowing the secret!
